Practical Tips to Perform the Subcranial Approach

چکیده
• Admit the patient to an intensive care unit for 24 h after surgery. Introduction The concept of a broad subcranial approach to the entire anterior skull base was first introduced as an alternative to the traditional craniofacial approach. The subcranial approach has several major advantages. (1) It affords a broad exposure of the anterior skull base from below rather than through the transfrontal route. (2) It provides an excellent access to the medial orbital walls and to the sphenoethmoidal, nasal and paranasal cavities. (3) It allows simultaneous intradural and extradural tumor removal and safe reconstruction of dural defects. (4) It does not require facial incisions. (5) It is performed with minimal frontal lobe manipulation.

متن کاملSurvey of a Practical Approach to Central Venous Catheterization in Pediatric Patients
Background Central venous catheter (CVC) is used for measuring hemodynamic variables, transfusion of blood, fluids and medications when peripheral vascular lack sufficiency. Unfortunately CVC is associated with many complications ranging from anxiety and discomfort for the patient to severe mechanical side effects such as arterial lacerations, pleural and pericardial injury as well as infection...
متن کاملRetinal detachment after subcranial resection of an anterior skull base tumor.
The subcranial approach has emerged as a safe and effective procedure for resection of tumors of the anterior skull base. This approach allows excellent exposure of the nasal cavities, the paranasal sinuses, and the orbit 1 I also enables a wide approach to the anterior cranial fossa, while applying minimal retraction of the frontal lobes. Complications of this procedure are acceptable and comp...

متن کاملThe Subcranial Extended Anterior Approach: for Craniofacial Resection of Carcinoma Involving the Midline Anterior Skull Base
The extended anterior subcranial approach, for craniofacial resection of carcinoma involving anterior midline skull base, involves an osteotomy of the fronto-naso-orbital external skeletal frame, so as to provide optimum anterior access to the orbital and sphenoethmoid planes, the nasal and paranasal cavities. A clear advantage is the avoidance of frontal lobe retraction, leading to early posto...
